The York Art Association, one of the oldest art associations in the country, is proud to offer two free galleries that showcase local art, year-round classes for adults and children, as well as a beautiful sculpture garden. Founded as a United Arts Fund in 1999, the York County Cultural Alliance helps foster a thriving community. For more than 30 years, Creative York has been working with children ages 3 to 12 on a variety of guided art activities. Classes are held weekly on the same day and at the same time for several weeks.
We offer a variety of media and levels for all artists. Our seasonal sessions (winter, spring, summer, fall) start with 8-week classes and then the workshops last 4 weeks. During the summer months, the YAA offers workshops for adults in June and August, to provide space for art camps for children during the month of July. Four buildings reflect the private and public life of early York, including a reconstruction of the Colonial Courthouse, where the Second Continental Congress met during York's nine-month term as the capital of the United States.
The museum houses collections from more than 200 years of firefighting in York County, including horse-drawn fire carriages, antique fire trucks, fire uniforms, photographs, and much more. 26% of agricultural artifacts produced or used in York County for more than three centuries include locally made wagons, tractors, steam engines, and agricultural tools. Michal Gavish is an acclaimed multimedia artist and art writer who splits his time between New York City and Washington DC. His work can be found in public and private collections in Munich, Budapest, New York City, North Carolina, London, Israel and Washington DC.
He earned his master's degree in painting from the San Francisco Institute of Art and his doctorate in physical chemistry from New York University. He has exhibited in solo exhibitions at the Budapest Museum in Hungary, The Delaware Contemporary, LIU in Brooklyn, Garrison NY, BlackRock MD, the SFMOMA Artist Gallery, and the Sandra Lee Gallery in San Francisco.
